Mixed review, June 18, 2012 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: AmScope 40X-2000X Full-Size 17 Lbs Professional Trinocular Lab Biological Compound Microscope with 3D Two-Layer Mechanical Stage (Electronics) For a sub-$300 microscope, this is a very good value. But compared to Nikon or Olympus professional models that cost 10 times more, it would be an unfair comparison. Simply put, optical and mechanical quality and performance fall well short of professional models. For students and hobbyists, this is more than adequate.
I also bought the Phase Contrast Kit (Model PCT) directly from Amscope for $684. When I was purchasing it, I thought it was a bit strange that Amscope priced the contrast kit so high since the microscopes it was designed to be used with cost only a fraction. I thought maybe the quality of the contrast kit might be high. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. It was not really useable so I ended up returning it.
The reason why I mention the Phase Contrast kit is this. For anyone considering buying anything from Amscope, buy from Amazon if you can. Returning anything to Amazon is exceptionally easy. That's not the case if you buy directly... Read more

A new adventure begins, May 2, 2012 Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: AmScope 40X-2000X Full-Size 17 Lbs Professional Trinocular Lab Biological Compound Microscope with 3D Two-Layer Mechanical Stage (Electronics) This is an amazing microscope and I would recommend it to everybody. It is a "heavy duty" one so you do not need to worry about it breaking. My 7 and 8 year old played with it all day after some instructions how to use it. Unless this microscope gets dropped on the floor, there really is nothing that they could break. I am extremely impressed with the quality of the lenses and how easy it is to operate it. The detail you see even at the lowest setting is amazing. It also comes with a dustcover.
I am trying to find a sturdy case for it and all the extra lenses and attachments that come with it. If anybody can advise me on this, that would be great.

The reason I choose this model was for the mechanical stage (sturdy, no wobbly), the 350 degree rotation head for 3 or 4 people to use without moving around and for camera use if I buy one in the future, and price. I received it and everything looks fine. I tested it with some of the slides I ordered along with the microscope and it works really well. I will suggest you buy a cleaning kit along with the microscope. I wish I had one when I received mine. Also, you will need a storage or traveling box. Amscope sells 2 different ones for this microscope. I am still shopping around. I wish I had compare the warranty between the microscopes before I bought mine. This one only has 5 years warranty. I will suggest you look at a friend microscope before you buy one. This is a big investment (at least for me) Cover all your bases before you make your decision.
