This unit delivers about as many lumens to the work as a standard light source. The benefit is that the unit is nice and compact, and it delivers a nice, even and shadowless cold light to the subject. At the highest magnification levels, I still need to use a "kicker" light from a separate light source to keep the light level high enough. At all other magnifications though, it is fully adequate. Here's hoping for good durability.
