The review by Simon Peach which I based my purchase decision upon is accurate. I was sure I could identify and correct the fiddly flashlight holder.
It turned out to be the post which mounts the flashlight to the microscope. It is a bit long on the end where it attaches to the flash light holder.
This is very easy to correct. Use a hand file or a piece of sand paper to round off the end of the mounting post.
I was replacing a similar portable inspection microscope which I had paid 2x for.
This scope has a light and 7x the viewing area which makes it so much easier to use.
I was looking for something simple ; portable for my son who is a high-school student ; loves biology. I didn't want a full-blown microscope but DID want something that was reasonable quality ; had a reasonable magnification. I found it hard to find anything like that on Amazon (most looked like junk), and then came across this one. I'm impressed! It's a professional piece of equipment (as item description says, is a portable inspection scope), solid metal body, and even comes in a storage box with foam-cutout spaces for each piece. Image is clear ; easy to focus ; doesn't need glass slides like a full microscope. I wondered if the measuring scale in the eyepiece would be distracting, but it really isn't. The torch (flashlight) holder is a little bit fiddly to setup, but I think once setup ; in place it'll work well. Only negative there is that to put it all back in the box you have to take off the holder again. Would be nice if the torch was LED instead of incandescent bulb. Almost reduced one star for these few negatives, but then relented. Would recommend this product.
